1970’s Top Power Forwards

In our ASJ Sports Media ranking of the Top 10 Power forwards our criteria is: Players had to play at least five seasons and play over 65 in each season.


The scoring system that we developed based on: Games played, minutes played, field goals, field goal percentage, free throws, free throws attempted, free throw percentage, offensive, defensive, total rebounds, assist and points all the categories are based on per season. Points were subtracted for leading the league in a specific category, all star selections and MVP awards

Honorable mention: Bill Bridges Atlanta Hawks, Philadelphia 76ers, Los Angeles Lakers, Golden State Warriors, Curtis Rowe, Detroit Pistons, Boston Celtics, Truck Robinson, Washington Bullets, Atlanta Hawks, New Orleans Jazz, Phoenix Suns.

Number 10 Paul Silas, Phoenix Suns, Boston Celtics. Paul scored 97 in our algorithm. Silas tied at number one in games played with 81. Silas was selected to All Defense one team twice and second team twice, he was also selected All-Star once.

Number nine Rudy Tomjanovich, San Diego Rockets, Houston Rockets. Rudy T a five time All-Star placed second in free throw percentage with .801%. fourth in field goal percent with a .483%, sixth with 17.9 points per season

Number eight Bobby Jones, Denver Nuggets, Philadelphia 76ers. Jones a nine time All-Star and a League Leader five times earning 14 Bonus Points. Jones placed first in field goals percentage in the decade with 57.4%, third in assist with 3.5 per game.

Number seven Happy Hairston, Los Angeles Lakers. Harsiton placed fifth in free throws attempted (4.9), free throws made (3.8) and free throw percentage (76.4) third in field goal percentage with a 48.5% mark, second in offensive rebounds 4.2, as well as 12.4 in total rebounds

Number six Sidney Wicks, Portland Trail Blazers, Boston Celtics, San Diego Rockets. Wicks placed fifth in minutes played 35.1,and points scored average with 18.1 fourth in free throws made 4.0, third in free throws attempted 5.8. Wicks earned six Bonus Points be a six time All-Star selection.

Number five Mickey Johnson, Chicago Bulls, Indiana Pacers.Placed fifth in offensive rebounds (3.0) and assist (2.9) second in free throw percentage shooting 80.1 at the charity stripe, first in games played average with 81. Johnson earned a Bonus Point as being a league leader

Number four Bob Love, Chicago Bulls. Love placed third in free throws attempted (5.8) , second in minutes played (39.8), free throw made (4.7) points scored (23.5), first in assist (4.2), free throw percent (81.7), field goals (9.3). Love earned three Bonus Points being a three time All-Star selection.

Number three Larry Kenon, New York Nets, San Antonio Spurs. Kenon earned four Bonus points based on being a four time All-Star selection. Kenon earned fifth place in field goals percentage at 89% and total rebounds (10.8) fourth place in scoring average (19.4), free throw percentage (78.5), minutes played (36.5), third place, in defensive rebounds (3.6) defensive rebounds (7.9) second in field goals percentage (49.0%), first in games played with 82

Number two Elvin Hayes, San Diego Rockets, Washington Bullets. Earned fourth place standings in offensive rebounds (3.5), total rebounds (11.5) assist with (2.8), third place in scoring (22.7), in field goals made (9.0), free throws made (4.4), second in free throws attempted (6.6), games played (81), first place in minutes played (42.0) total rebounds (9.7). Hayes earned 13 Bonus Points

Number one George McGinnis Indiana Pacers, Philadelphia 76ers. Earned third place minutes played (37.3), second place in: field goals made (9.1), defensive rebounds (8.2), assist (3.9), first points were earned free throws attempted (7.8) free throws made (6.0), offensive rebounds (4.3), total rebounds (12.5) and points scored (24.3)
